Professor Jens Wenzel Andreasen from DTU Energy was interviewed in Danish television about the fact that for the first time ever solar power is now cheaper than wind power

Solar power is, for the first time, the cheapest form of new electricity. This can be read in an article in Bloomberg Technology, citing fresh data from Bloomberg New Energy Finance.

In 2016, the price has declined more than 50%, going from a contract in January to produce electricity for $64 per megawatt-hour in India to a deal in August pegging $29.10 per megawatt hour in Chile. That’s record-cheap electricity—roughly half the price of competing coal power and even comparable to Nuclear Power.

The news of solar power and renewable energy in general reaching a commercial turning point had the Danish News program DR2 Dagen invite professor Jens Wenzel Andreasen from DTU Energy into the studio to tell the viewers about research into solar cells and how storage of energy is still an important issue to be pursued.
