HEIST

High-temperature Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Transmission Electron Microscopy on Energy Materials.

Zhongtao Ma working on sample FIB-SEM preparation for operando TEM

About the project

The HEIST project aims to advance Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell (SOEC) technology by developing an operando electrochemical TEM method to characterize SOEC cells while they are operated in the electrochemical environment. The operando method we have developed combines Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The operando TEM method provides real-time images of nanostructures and composition during cell operation, revealing the structure-activity relationship.

This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (grant agreement No 850850).
