K-Ion
Low-cost Batteries made from Earth-Abundant Rocks for Grid-Scale and Automotive applications
About the project
Our idea is to enable a new generation of potassium-ion batteries with performance approaching state-of-the-art lithium-ion systems, while fully eliminating lithium and other critical elements. Rather than redesigning the battery, we retain the proven Li-ion architecture and manufacturing ecosystem and replace only the active materials. We realize this based on our patented concept, in which potassium-based, earth-abundant oxides and silicates are chemically activated to function as high-performance electrode and electrolyte materials. This approach opens a pathway toward sustainable, scalable, and geopolitically secure batteries that can meet the safety, lifetime, and power demands of future automotive applications.
