Section for Applied Ceramics and Processing (ACE)

The ACE section is centered around synthesizing functional materials and processing them into essential components and devices for the green transition.

We synthesize functional materials and process them into components and devices with improved performance. Tailoring and understanding of the fundamental material properties by targeted processing strategies is our primary objective.

We use state-of-the-art and scalable processing techniques, and we explore innovative approaches enhancing the functionality and cost-effectiveness. This holistic approach towards accelerated material implementation allows us to reduce the time from material discovery to its application.

The main research interests of the section are:

  • Synthesis of novel inorganic materials for a broad range of applications, including electrolysis, fuel cells, catalysis, membranes, carbon capture, batteries, piezoelectrics, superconductors and biocompatible applications.
  • Scalable and advanced processing routes including tape casting, screen-printing, extrusion, additive manufacturing and (rapid) sintering for components and devices, ensuring scalability and industrial applicability of our materials and processes.
  • Understanding the relation between nano- and microstructure and functional or structural performance.
Transforming raw materials into technology solutions.
